Well, here we are again with the latest report from Temple Croft B&B, this time focusing on holiday cottages in Alston.
The Nookery: now open for business
With all this recent fine weather – and more glorious sunshine predicted – you may be contemplating booking a holiday cottage. If wild and wonderful is your idea of the Great Outdoors, why not consider Alston holiday cottages? It could be the perfect choice for your collective adventures with friends and family over the coming months.
Alston is a great place to get away from it all and get back to nature. With raging rivers, fabulous fells and moody moorland, it’s the perfect location for nature lovers to kick back. It’s also a convenient base to explore the magnificent Lake District to the west, or the equally renowned Northumberland coastline to the east.
Consequently, we are very excited to announce a new kid on the block: The Nookery, our self-catering Alston holiday cottage right next door to Temple Croft. This rustic and charming property is perfect for a quiet getaway with two large double bedrooms that can sleep four guests.
The high-quality, hotel-grade zip-and-link beds can be configured as super kings or full-size twin singles. This makes The Nookery perfect for a couple, a small group of friends or a family with a couple of kids.
Multifuel stove
Downstairs, the spacious and comfy sitting room has a small multifuel stove within a stone inglenook fireplace for cosy nights in. The Nookery also boasts a large, well-equipped modern kitchen with ample room for up to six people to dine, chat and relax.
Outside The Nookery is a large decked area, a perfect space for relaxation during the warmer months. Why not take advantage of the supplied BBQ for an alfresco lunch? Or just catch some rays with a nice cold drink?
Excellent facilities
In addition, Nookery guests have full access to Temple Croft’s excellent facilities. These include: dry room; washing machines; pressure washer; shower room; bike lockup/washdown/maintenance areas. What’s more, the private Temple Croft car park is usually available for at least one Nookery vehicle. If not, there is plenty of free parking in a public car park just two minutes’ walk away.
Evening meals
For those not in the mood for cooking for themselves, we also offer our well-received ‘What’s in the Pot?’ B&B menu. This small selection of delicious evening meals can be enjoyed in the comfortable Temple Croft dining room right next door.
Dog-friendly accommodation
Not forgetting about dogs, your four-legged canine companions are also welcome in The Nookery (two maximum). Maybe they will even tempt you out for long walks in our beautiful, rugged North Pennine countryside? The Nookery’s convenient location in the heart of Alston, means a rewarding pint or two of something refreshing after a long trek is no problem. Indeed, there are several excellent hostelries within a couple of minutes’ walk of the property.

Book Temple Croft as a holiday let
If smaller Alston holiday cottages are not your thing, we are now offering Temple Croft as a self-catering holiday let. Temple Croft is a large house with a large enclosed garden catering for much bigger groups (up to 17 – or even more). So if you’ve got a big birthday or an important anniversary to celebrate with family or friends, look no further.
In 2023, we have dates specifically for holiday let bookings in August (vanishing fast) and over Christmas/New Year 2023/24. We are also are flexible on other dates, subject to availability. Call 01434 382660 for further details.
Dining and recreation
Temple Croft boasts a well-appointed kitchen and utility area; large dining/sitting room with TV and substantial multifuel stove; and cosy snug with wall-mounted TV.
For additional recreational areas, our large dry room doubles as a games room – complete with table tennis table table and dart board.
We also offer a private dining service for your group, if required, so you can celebrate a special occasion in style without having to book a restaurant or cook for yourselves.
Brilliant Bunkhouse
The Bunkhouse is a large room sleeping eight in mega-sturdy adult bunkbeds. It’s the perfect space for younger people to share: they will enjoy the novelty of their own area and large private bathroom away from the parents/fogies.
