Alston cycling accommodation: midpoint oasis on the C2C

‘Absolutely perfect in every way. Favourite stop on our C2C cycle. Comfiest bed, amazing food and just the loveliest hosts. So happy to have found you and hope to return. Thank you.’
Penny and Chris,
Derbyshire

Are you looking for cycling accommodation in Alston for your C2C ride? Or maybe you’re just after a nice quiet place to stay while you’re cycling or walking the many routes around Alston? Either way, here’s the latest news from Temple Croft B&B.

We hope that you had a great summer out on the roads and have been enjoying the unseasonably mild November. The weather here in Alston has been decidedly mixed, but when the sun shines it’s glorious. Even during the most extreme moments of the recent record-busting heatwave, the fresh air and cool North Pennine breezes made cycling here a total joy.

Cycling accommodation – Alston options

Come rain or shine, it’s been very gratifying to see how much our intrepid cycling guests enjoy the flexible cycling accommodation options here at Temple Croft. So far this year we have hosted an international array of freewheeling adventurers. These include a rangy Kiwi senior (who almost brained himself on a low beam); a pair of Dutch lasses with a rather ambivalent view of the unfamiliar topographical challenges; a party of 17 young athletes and coaches from a ski school in Austria; and the ‘Magnificent Seven’ – a multi-generational group of family and friends from Canada and Hartlepool.

‘A delight. . . after a hard day’s cycle. Should become a cyclist’s haven mid C2C. All requirements catered for. Thank you for such a comfortable stay.’
Marion,
St Albans

When they arrive at Temple Croft, cyclists have often just completed the sinew-shredding climb over Hartside Pass. Consequently, they really appreciate the hot/cold baths/showers, ‘What’s in the Pot’ evening menu and perhaps a little lie down on the ultra comfy beds or bunks. Also, the fact that there are three or four cracking pubs within a two-minute stagger of Temple Croft helps ease the pain, too!

Purpose built

As well as the cycling accommodation, they also rave about our purpose-built bicycle livery, which includes:

  • a large and secure bike lockup, with wall racks, that holds up to 20 bikes
  • washdown bay and maintenance area with basic tools and essentials
  • centrally heated dry room with clothes washing facilities, drying rails, hanging racks and powerful dehumidifiers

Shower or bath (or both)?

The bike livery features a modern shower room/WC, so you can jump off your bike and straight into the shower. And that’s even before you’ve got settled into your room! This facility also takes the pressure off the two showers and bathtub in the Bunkhouse bathroom if all eight guests want to get clean and warmed up (or cooled down) at the same time.

‘Thanks Amanda and Paul: staying here was exactly what we needed after a 100km bike ride. Warm welcome, great food, comfy beds. And a bike washing station! Brilliant!’
Michael and Noelle,
Cambridge

Our 2023 calendar is now open for business on our website and is ready for your online bookings. So why not pin some dates down with your chums, plan your route and book your cycling accommodation? We offer a discount for groups of six or more in the Bunkhouse. Plus, we can close off any remaining empty bunks for a private group if required.

Comfort and flexibility

For a slightly more luxurious stay (and breakfast included) we have a double, triple and ‘family’ room (that can sleep four adults). All of these room are equipped with new zip & link beds with comfortable 1000 pocket sprung mattresses. What’s more, our flexible accommodation has been designed to cater for all budgets and configurations. And we have options for singles and couples as well as larger groups of families and friends.

We have so enjoyed looking after you all this season so far and can’t wait to meet even more of you next year.
